The schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancake with raisins) are famous; in fact the chef won second place in the German Schnitzel Competition. And for good reason, his schnitzel are very hard to better: buttery, crispy and juicy. Nevertheless one must save space for one of the Kaiserschmarrn, which are each served in a little iron pan with a jar of apple puree. The Kaisergarten is a light-suffused guesthouse with a small corner shop feeling in the middle of Munich’s Schwabing district. In nice weather the small beer garden is opened. Under the chestnut trees a schnitzel and a freshly drawn beer somehow taste even better. The crowd is a colourful mix, and the mood is usually very lively and relaxed, particularly in the evening. Lunch time tends to attract the fine old dames of the neighbourhood. Everyone, it seems, feels instantly at home at Kaisergarten.
